Resident. Widespread and common throughout England
and Wales and as far north as the southern highlands of Scotland.
Montgomeryshire Status
Discovered in the west of the county at the Cors Dyfi Nature Reserve in
2013. This was only the seventh record for north Wales.
Wingspan
:
M & F 10-12mm.
Confusion species
Many species of Elachista are extremely similar, great care should be
given when separating these species.

Fens, marshes and other wet places.
Foodplant
Grasses.
Lifestage data
Leaf miner. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva mines downwards from the tip
of the leaf, forming a large whitish-green blotch. Pupates without a
cocoon on the same leaf as the mine, anchored to the leaf by a silken
girdle. |
